Admixture Offers Sustainable Gains for Precast Production

BASF is highlighting the benefits of its GLENIUM® ACE 499 admixture, which accelerates cement hydration and supports high early strength. The high-performance polycarboxylate ether (PCE) superplasticizer has been designed for use in the precast industry as part of BASF’s Zero Energy System.

The admixture’s polymer structure is designed to achieve the optimal rheology of precast concrete, making it extremely flowable with low viscosity even at very low water/cement ratios, without increasing stickiness. The end result is a robust product in accordance with EN 206-1, with an improved surface appearance.

Said marketing manager, Ian Berrie: "Sustainability and cost are key issues for precast manufacturers. GLENIUM® ACE 499 supports environmentally friendly, CO2-reduced mix design optimization, improved productivity – especially when combined with X-SEED® 100 Crystal Speed Hardening – and leaner curing cycles, with the potential elimination or reduction of heat curing to save energy."
