Excellent Finish for Concrete with New BASF Surface Retarder 

BASF has launched a new surface retarder available in seven texture depths which gives an improved exposed surface for aggregate concrete manufacture.

RHEOFACE® 490 is based on high-grade active components diluted in hydrocarbon solvents free of aromatics. Ideal for architectural concrete requiring an excellent surface finish and high reproducibility, RHEOFACE® 490 can be used for concrete surface (positive) and mould surface (negative) application.

Its good bond makes it suitable for all concretes and moulds, guaranteeing perfectly washed surfaces, especially with horizontal and vertical smooth, structured or bevelled formwork such as polymers, wood or steel.

Low viscosity makes it easy to apply, economical in use and very reliable even in difficult application conditions. It dries quickly, is humidity and abrasion resistant and can be applied on all types of clean moulds.

RHEOFACE® 490’s mechanism of action allows a wash-off time of 24–72 hours, compatible with overnight to over-weekend production cycles. Immediate wash-off after stripping forms guarantees perfect, uniform edges.
